Vibration Motor Troubleshooting

Troubleshooting may only be carried out by authorised qualified staff. The qualified personnel must only use tools suitable for the application.

DC vibration motor

Fault 1

Vibration motor does not start or runs at too low speed

Possible cause

  • Phase interruption
  • Mains voltage too low

Troubleshooting

  • Check fuse and connecting cable
  • Check mains voltage and cable cross section

Action

  • Replace fuse and/or connecting cable
  • Check if mains voltage is correct, replace cable

Fault 2

Vibration motor speed drops under load

Possible cause

  • Wiring wrong
  • Inadequate contact of a connection point
  • Phase interruption
  • Incorrectly dimensioned connecting cable
  • Overload
  • Mains voltage too low

Troubleshooting

  • Check circuit diagram
  • Check connection in terminal box
  • Check fuse and connecting cable
  • Check cable cross-section
  • Check mains voltage and cable cross-section
  • Check setting of unbalances

Action

  • Tighten terminal nuts
  • Replace fuse or connecting cable
  • Replace cable
  • Reduce unbalances
  • Check if mains voltage is corrrect, and replace cable

Fault 3

Vibration motor one phase without current

Possible cause

  • Phase interruption

Troubleshooting

  • Check the connecting cable

Action

  • Replace cable

Fault 4

  • Excessive heating of stator winding

Possible cause

  • Wiring wrong overload
  • Mains voltage too low

Troubleshooting

  • Check circuit diagram
  • Check mains voltage and cable cross-section

Action

  • Check if mains voltage is correct, replace cable

Fault 5

  • Vibration motor hums

Possible cause

  • Phase interruption
  • Short-circuit between turns in the stator winding

Troubleshooting

  • Check fuse, mains voltage and connecting cable
  • Replace vibrator

Action

  • Correct mains voltage, replace fuse and/or cable

Fault 6

Circuit breaker fails when switched on

Possible cause

  • Phase interruption
  • Overload
  • Short circuit in winding

Troubleshooting

  • Check fuse and connecting cable
  • Check unbalance settings
  • Replace vibrator

Action

  • Replace fuse and/or cable
  • Reduce unbalance

Fault 7

  • High current consumption

Possible cause

  • Natural resonance range of vibration system
  • Bounce impacts

Troubleshooting

  • Measure current consumption
  • Measure current consumption
  • Loose fastening

Action

  • Stiffen device
  • Reduce power of vibrator
  • Tighten screws

Fault

  • Bearings too warm

Possible cause

  • Too much grease in bearings
  • No grease in bearings
  • Foreign body in bearings

Troubleshooting

  • Fill in correct amount of grease
  • Clean bearings, replace if necessary
